Plain khichdi is one of the most popular of recent trending meals on earth. It’s appreciated by millions daily. It’s easy, it is quick, it tastes yummy. They’re nice and they look fantastic. Plain khichdi is something which I’ve loved my entire life.
To begin with this particular recipe, we have to prepare a few ingredients. You can cook plain khichdi using 5 ingredients and 3 steps. Here is how you cook it.
The ingredients needed to make Plain khichdi:
- Take 1 cup regular rice (not basmati)
- Prepare 1/2-3/4 cup Dal (tuver/yellow mung/green mung Dal)
- Get as per taste Salt
- Get 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- Get 2 tbsp ghee
It is not only easy to make, but it is so delicous to eat and it is high in protein as well. When i am not feeling that good, i simply make this dish. Plain moong dal khichdi is a comfort food to have on any day. It is prepared by pressure cooking moong dal, some tuvar dal and rice together with turmeric, salt and water.
Steps to make Plain khichdi:
- Mix rice and dal, wash well for a few times and soak in water at least 1/2 an hour. Put them in the cooker along with water. The water should be about 2 inches above the surface of rice-dal mixture. Add salt and turmeric powder.
- Let it boil uncovered on low heat till the rice grains are almost cooked. They should look puffed as shown in the picture. Most of the water will be absorbed by this time (You may have to add some more water at this point if required and if you like khichdi softer). Ensure that there is some water to cook for 5 more minutes after closing the lid. Add a tbsp ghee and cover the lid. Let it cook for 3-5 mins on very low heat. Remove the cooker from heat and let it cool.
- Take it out in a serving bowl. Pour another tbsp of ghee and serve hot with kadhi or shak with curry, papad, achar and onion. We love eating khichdi with brinjal-potato shak / potato shak.
This khichdi is very easy. ou can also prepare spicy khichdi by adding vegetables and spices to it. Most of the people have spicy khichdi inspite of plain. Both the khichdis taste well but spicy khichdi taste more tasty & spicy, as. But making even a plain khichdi everyday can get tedious.
