The ingredients needed to make Coconut Burfi:
  1. Take 1 cup coconut Grated
  2. Take 1/2 cup Milk
  3. Make ready 1/2 cup Sugar
  4. Prepare 2 tbsps Ghee butter or clarified
  5. Prepare pinch Cardamom powder a
  6. Make ready Cashew nuts Almond &   flakes

Fresh grated coconut in cardamom flavoured sugar syrup. Coconut Burfi is made with coconut powder combined with a cardamom flavored sugar syrup. This is a scrumptious dessert or snack. Coconut burfi / thengai burfi is very easy to make and only with few ingredients.

Steps to make Coconut Burfi:
  1. Heat a pan, add to it milk and sugar and dissolve it completely.
  2. Meanwhile, grease a plate with a drop of ghee, adding crushed cashews and almond flakes over it and set aside.
  3. Now add the grated coconut and a pinch of cardamom powder to the above milk mixture.
  4. Use low flame throughout the entire cooking process for the mixture to remain white till the end.
  5. Remove the mixture as soon as it thickens a bit leaving the sides of the pan and becomes a lump. Do not wait for the mixture to dry out completely.
  6. Now drop the mixture into the ghee greased plate, level it using a spatula or a butter paper to give a smooth polish to the burfi. It will be set in 2-3 minutes.
  7. Draw lines & make shapes of your choice immediately after 2 minutes else it will be hard to make shape. Now turn the greased plate upside down and get the burfi pieces out!
  8. Now common, what are you waiting for..go for it :P

Easy step by step photos method, without sugar syrup consistency. I wonder why I have not attempted to make this. Coconut Burfi / Thengai Burfi is hubbys fav and my MIL is an expert in making this. To me she makes the best coconut burfis - perfect in texture and shape too. As diwali is nearing, I wanted to try this.
