Khatti Dal is a food originating in India and central to Hyderabadi cuisine. It is a type of dal made using Masoor dal or Toor dal. It is a popular dish in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Steps to make Hyderabadi Khatti Dal:
- Soak toor dal for 2 hours. Transfer it to a pressure cooker and add cubed tomatoes, green chillies,ginger garlic crushed.
- Add red chilli and turmeric powder. Add water and pressure cook for 2 whistles.
- When dal is done mash it woth a masher. Add soaked tamarind.
- Switch on the gas and add the tamarind water to dal.(you can adjust the sourness as per your taste,some likes sour and some don't. I have added less quantity). To this add few curry leaves.
- Add the green chillies and coriander leaves chopped. Stir nicely and let it boil. At this point add the required salt.
- Adjust water, I have added 1 more cup of water(adjust consistency as per your preference). let it boil for 5 mins or till the raw taste of tamarind goes.
- For tadka take oil in a vessel and when hot add the mustard seeds and when it crackle add the remaining ingredients.
- Add all the tadka ingredients and let it fry. pour over the dal.
