  1. Prepare 1 cup Rava Semolina /
  2. Get 3 tbsps Oil
  3. Make ready 4 tbsps Ghee
  4. Make ready Asafoetida
  5. Get 1 tsp mustard seeds
  6. Prepare 1 tbsp chana dal
  7. Make ready 1 tbsp urad dal
  8. Prepare 1/2 inch ginger
  9. Take 2 green chillies
  10. Make ready 1 onion
  11. Prepare salt
  12. Prepare 300 ml water

Plan rava upma without any vegetables. In this place rava uppittu is accompanied by avalakki upkari and served in combo. In Udupi this combo is popular as Bajil-Upakari. Rava Upma or Uppittu recipe is one of the common breakfast recipes prepared in Karnataka.

Instructions to make Rava Upma / Uppittu:
  1. Finely chop the onion, shred the ginger, slit and chop the green chillies and keep them ready.
  2. Take a kadaai, keep it on medium heat.
  3. Add 3 tbsps of ghee and 3 tbsps of oil and allow it to heat.
  4. Now add asafoetida, mustard seeds, channa dal, urad dal, ginger, chillies and onion.Saute them until aromatic.
  5. Now add the semolina and saute this for about 1 minute.
  6. Now add 300 ml of water to this. With it add the required amount of salt and stir.
  7. Stir this continuously and allow it to boil. Semolina has the tendency of forming lumps. Stir it continuously and break the lumps. Care should be taken in this step as it tends to splutter on your hand and face. Do this step in medium heat. Garnish the finely chopped coriander leaves
  8. It takes about 2-3 minutes to absorb all the water. It becomes into a halwa.
  9. Now add the final tablespoon of ghee and mix. Take it off the heat and serve it hot with peanut chutney
