At my home khichdi was made just with rice and moong dal. Adding a few vegetables with spicy tomato seasoning makes khichdi a complete meal. Instructions to make Moong Masala:
  1. Soak whole moong dal over night.
  2. Next day boil in a pressure cooker for 10 mins.
  3. Heat oil in a pan.
  4. Add cumin seeds to crackle.
  5. Add asafoetida,curry leaves,ginger garlic paste and saute for one mins.
  6. Add onion and fry till dark brown.
  7. Add turmeric powder,red chilli powder,black pepper powder,roasted mango powder and salt and mix well.
  8. Add whole moong dal in it and cook for 5 - 6 mins.
  9. Pour lemon juice and mix well.
  10. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve.
